Dr. Laura To Bring Her Practice To Sirius XM

In August Laura Schlessinger announced that she would be leaving her Dr. Laura radio show when her contract expired at the end of the year.  According to an AP report,  Schlessinger will make the jump from traditional to satellite radio and host a three-hour weekday program beginning on Monday, Jan. 3.

Schlessinger faced heavy criticism from activists that called for her removal from the airwaves in early August after her repeated use of a racial epithet when talking to a black woman on her show.  When discussing her reasons for the transition to satellite radio, Schlessinger cited a desire to speak without any concern for restriction:

The first and most important thing that appealed to me was the freedom to speak my mind without advertisers and affiliates being attacked by activist groups that just love to censor anything they don’t agree with.  That just about made my heart and head explode.

Schlessinger’s current show reaches about eight million listeners in all 50 states and can be found on several New York frequencies.  Her new show will be available on the Internet and through smart phone apps.
