Google Quietly Launches Quarterly Online Magazine In The U.K.

What’s this, hmm?

Newsgrange is reporting that Google has quietly launched an online magazine in the UK called Think Quarterly. The first edition is 62 pages, with articles both from writers inside of Google and freelancers, and the publication is designed and edited by creative agency The Church of London.

Managing Director of Google UK and Ireland operations Matt Brittin writes in the “About” section:

Think Quarterly is a breathing space in a busy world. It’s a place to take time out and consider what’s happening and why it matters… Our first issue is dedicated to Data – amongst a morass of information, how can you find the magic metrics that will help transform your business? We hope that you find inspiration, insights, and more, in Think Quarterly.

This publication is a curiosity in light of the recent New York Times article accusing Google of being a media company, in which Google Chief economist Hal Varian says, “We are in the business of media distribution, but I don’t think that we would be very good at media creation.” But if you take a spin through the Think Quarterly articles, you’ll see one called “Lunch with Hal,” featuring Varian himself, about the data obesity epidemic!

Google, you are such a media company.
