Lunch at Michael's: Brokaw, Schieffer, RokerIt was the kind of Lunch at Michael's that would make even TVNewser jealous. It was blustery in Midtown, so it's only natural that the nation's most recognizable weatherman, the Today Show's Al Roker, would be lunching in the friendly confines of Michael's, along with some television news icons NBC's Tom Brokaw and current CBS Evening News anchor Bob Schieffer, whose temporary chair-warming after Dan Rather's exit hit the year mark earlier this month. Being the day after another legend, 60 Minutes' Mike Wallace, announced his retirement, we'll bet career reflection was on the mind. The three anchored separate tables while another newser, ABC's Cynthia McFadden, lunched with friends. Here's the list:
2: Peter Brown of Brown Lloyd James and Mike Holtzman. 3: Mayor of Michael's Joe Armstrong a Texan, who has his own vase (in the shape of a cowboy boot) with Jim Peterson, who ran Worldwide Pants for many years. 4: Tom Brokaw looking, well, very Brokaw-like, with an unjacketed TV-looking guy in a blue Oxford shirt. 5: Stanley Jaffe, a longtime producer at Paramount and Columbia Pictures and who produced Kramer v. Kramer back in the day with someone. 6: ABC's Cynthia McFadden in a horizontal-striped jacket, with three other well-dressed women. 7: Gerry Byrne, a former publisher of Variety, in a yellow polka-dotted tire, with a woman in an attractive tailored suit. Byrne, we hear, put together a party for Literacy Partners, which is tonight at Michael's. 8: No David Patrick Columbia this week. Instead, Anne Hickey (possibly an ad exec) with a well-suited man. 9: Hearst's Deb Schriver and Michael Tracy of L'oreal. 12: House Beautiful's David Arnold. 14: Hearst's Cathy Black in a chunky turquoise necklace, with a woman with short auburn hair. This one seemed like a serious business discussion, until the check came. 15: A sharp-looking and svelte Al Roker, in a pink shirt, silver tie and dark suit, with Jim Bell, an executive producer at the Today Show. 16: Ahmet Ertegun, the legendary Atlantic Records co-founder with a party of three. 17: Former CNN anchor Prudence Solomon Inzerillo, the wife of hotel mogul Jerry Inzerillo, and another woman. 18: Venerable CBS Evening News anchor Bob Schieffer, laughing a lot, and a tall mustached-man. On his way out, Schieffer stopped by the bar area to exchange parenting (in his case grandparenting) tips with Michael's own Loreal. But first he, Brokaw and current New School president (and former Nebraska Senator) Bob Kerrey pow-wow at Joe Armstrong's table. They all erupt in laughter when Armstrong pulled out a deck of "Dubya" playing cards. 21: who was there? 22: Time Warner's Peter Wolff. 23: NBC's Jon Wald. 24: Peter Price and Christopher Fry, CEO of US preventive medicine, which is launching a new tv program. 27: Stuart Zakim with a couple of Multi-Channel newsers, Tom Steiner-Threlkeld and senior editor George Vernadakis. Stuart tried to help us ID people this week. "It's like playing Trivial Pursuit: The Media," he noted. Jordan Ringel, hot-shot entertainment attorney with a winning smile, with a media planning group. (2nd seating) 28: who dere? 29: Cablevision's Barry Frey. Back Room: the Namibian Permanent Representative to the U.N. (Martin Andjaba(sp?) dining with Frank Ferrari, former EVP of the African-American Institute. Table 41: David S. Moyer of Moyer, Sherwood Associates, Inc. with Henry Miller of Goodman Media. If you were at Michael's today (or any day) and would like to report in, or correct the record, please email LaurelT AT mediabistro.com Map of Michael's Email This Post |
