Who hasn't made a mixtape? (Or, with the newfangled technology that the kids are using these days, a mix-CD.) It's been referred to as "the most widely practiced American art form" by essayist and music-lover Geoffrey O'Brien (but anyone who's ever ripped their guts out over a CD for their ex would know that), and in the hip-hop world, it's a big deal. The mixtape has been the gateway for many a scrappy street producer to mix up his favorite artists, bust some rhymes and pass out the result as promos, leading to exposure, street cred and the chance to mix it up for real (read: for money).

Enter Mixtape Magazine, launching tomorrow, which will cover the mixtape industry (which actually is significant enough to warrant its own magazine; per publisher Kimberly Wilson, big business has sprouted from this grassroots industry, especially when rappers like Snoop Dog stop in to throw down an exclusive few bars "to keep them close to the people and close to the street").

We are personally the furthest thing from the street, but we love making mixtapes (and now CDs) and secretly know that Snoop would love ours.
