...and Justice for all

JUSTICEcover (1).jpgWe're chiming in with yesterday's MB feature on Justice Magazine, courtesy of Blottered boys Andrew Krucoff and Chris Gage, highlighting some of the more media-centric morsels sprinkled across its blood-spattered pages. Actually it's not at all gory, but I just felt like being dramatic.

The first thing I noticed was the return of Jim Mullen. Fans of Entertainment Weekly will recall his "Hot Sheet," which was replaced about a year or so ago by Dalton Ross' "Hit List" (which I must say I prefer, having been a huge fan of Ross' TV blurbs, which are now ably written by Alynda Wheat). Mullen's column is called "There Oughta Be A Law," and he seems to have added a dollop of reasonableness to his former style, which is good. So, welcome back Jim Mullen.

Now this could be interesting: a friendly back-and-forth between Headline News' Nancy Grace and hotshot defense lawyer Mark Geragos (pictured in shades, which is lame). Since it's the first issue there's the obligatory discussion of the Robert Blake/Scott Peterson/Michael Jackson trials, which for a July/August 2005 magazine gets dated fast (common theme: stealth jurors. I'd like to see a feature on that, and how trial lawyers bust 'em in voir dire). But toward the end they touch on the issue of camersa inside the courtroom, which could tease out some interesting points and examples if they gave it more attention. This feature could be really good if the two were free to hash through the things we don't already know about. It's especially interesting to read them interacting as colleagues. There's plenty they could dish about, I bet. I say get 'em drunk and loose their spicy tongues. Well, you know what I mean.

Marcia Clark has a column called "The Advocate" where she passes judgment "Dear Abby" style. We can't help but pass judgment on her complete and total overhaul: she's a sleek blonde now! And her face looks somehow...different. Hmm. She looks a little like Jane Leeves, that dotty Daphne from Frasier. She also weighs in on Michael Jackson, but God we skimmed that. We were with Geraldo the whole time.

The last interesting media get from the maiden Justice is an article on women who love murderers behind bars...by Michael Finkel! Now that he's back, I've noticed him popping up all here and there. In the case of "here" he pegs the article on killer Christian Longo, who murdered his family and then skipped off on the lam under the assumed identity of...Michael Finkel. His book on the subject came out end of May.

Then, of course, there are pretty pictures of celebrities running afoul of the law. Lucky Justice, they'll probably always be able to count on those.

Disclaimer: The publicist for Justice Magazine is Rachel Pine, "Twins of Tribeca" author and friend of mine. Also, both of our names are Rachel.
