Media Minutiae: Roundin' Up
The Times, they aren't a changing much, really: Slate's Jack Shafer continues to chase the Story story (aka the dubiously-quoted NYT piece on Ivy League-women eschewing careers for motherhood), finding an almost identical trend piece from 1980 and getting the Story behind the now-storied story from - who else? - Story. To Shafer's credit, he does not make that lame pun even once. [Slate]
John Kerry looked extremely ill at ease right here on this very cushion! Put this on your watch list: Jon Stewart and his puppet-following pals at the Daily Show are auctioning off pieces of the old set on eBay now through Wedneseday (Sept. 28), with proceeds to 826 NYC, a non-profit dedicated to helping students improve their writing skills. It's true, the couch is never coming back. Also never coming back: Bernard Goldberg, we bet. [E! Online]
Stephen Colbert: Likes Hugging, and You Ought To, Too A lovely and surprisingly revealing Q&A with Stephen Colbert in yesterday's NYT mag. No jokes here (don't want to be unpopular), just excitement for his show's debut. [NYT]
Listen...do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell...? Ohh whooa whoa, closer...let me whisper in your ear... Apparently the Beatles are alone in their willingness to spill; apparently anonymous sources are more hesitant to give it up following the Matt & Judy imbroglio of earlier this year (and presumably the Newsweek Koran incident didn't help much either. No one talks about that anymore). Also: second reference to Danielle Brian on Fishbowl today! She's FAMOUS. [AJR]
