Our pal Bucky Turco, renaissance man of the media, is back today with a vengeance, proving that he is the go-to guy for scoops, quotes, and general NYC media mavenry. Today, Bucky claims victory for the ubiquitous Snapple story, leaking (hee - melty Snapple puns are fun) it to Adrants and Gothamist, beating the mad rush to the Internet. Now, we all know that a giant slushy Snapple sculpture melting away in the middle of Union Square isn't exactly tough to hear about, but these days getting there first matters. And Bucky beat 'em all - CNN, NY1, Yahoo, the NYT (which has my favorite headline in this, by the way: "A Shocking Thing Happened to the Big Popsicle. It Melted."), the NYPost, the NYDN (and, it goes without saying, FishbowlNY. We have been woefully behind on our Snapple reporting).** This is a classic example of how blogs can beat the MSM to a story (and by the way, MSM, where is this story?), and an even more classic example about how a scrappy publisher-bike-messenger-trendspotter-graffiti-art-expert can realize his starry dreams of media ubiquity inside a month. New York City, where the streets are paved with gold, and sometimes Snapple.
**How do you think I got this story? Seriously. We all could use a little Bucky every once in a while.
