Oxfeld Out In Gawker Shakeup

We were awoken from a Baden Powell-and-Hefeweizen-fueled holiday weekend haze by this bit of news: editor Jesse Oxfeld is out at Gawker. According to a source with knowledge of the site's inner-workings, Oxfeld was told Friday his contract would not be renewed. The move, first reported by Jossip, is just one in a number of sweeping changes at the buzzy blog network run by Nick Denton.

Among the changes:

A pair of Gawker Media's lesser-known sites, Screenhead and Sploid, will be closed if they are not sold by the end of July.

Oxfeld and Gizmodo's John Biggs are out, just a week after David Lat's jump from Wonkette to Elizabeth Spiers' company.

Chris Mohney moves from Gawker Media's Gridskipper to Gawker, assuming a new managing editor role. TMFTML's Alex Balk replace's Oxfeld as co-editor alongside Jessica Coen.

Wired editor Brian Lam will leave the magazine to become editor of Gizmodo, replacing Biggs.

Joshua David Stein, a contributor, replaces Mahoney at Gridskipper.

Gawker Media is prepping a music-related site. No word on when it will be launched.

We're told Denton will publish an extended post on his personal site on Monday explaining the rationale behind the moves.
