The Guardian Comes Stateside

The Guardian is finally, officially, stateside. The online version, that is. Back in March word spread that the celebrated paper would be expanding and basing operations in New York, and today it unveiled the new United States news homepage, Guardiannews.com.

As reported, Janine Gibson is overseeing the site. Gibson has been with the Guardian since 1998, and says that the site will grow slowly but surely.

“The site will be a gradual build which will allow us to monitor audiences and grow according to behaviour and what our users want — we’re starting small but thinking big. It’s fantastic to know that we will have the freedom to innovate and experiment with new forms of digital journalism with the full support of the Guardian brand behind us.”

The U.S. Guardian is also getting a little New York help: Robert Mackey, of The New York Times’ The Lede blog, is joining the site soon.
