Ti Hua Chang's New Gig

0221chang.jpgWCBS reporter Ti Hua Chang has just been hired by WWOR/My9 as their new general assignment reporter.

With this hire, Ti Hua has become New York's official free agent local television news allstar:

  • He worked at WCBS as a reporter.
  • He worked at WNBC as a reporter.
  • He worked at ABC News as a producer.
  • He worked at WNYC as a talk show host.

That leaves, by our reckoning, WNET & WNYW/Fox 5 as the only local television stations Chang has not worked for. He's also a four-time Emmy award winner.

    Press release after the jump.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AWARD-WINNING REPORTER TI HUA CHANG JOINS WWOR MY9

SECAUCUS, NEW JERSEY - Ti Hua Chang has joined My9 News as a general assignment reporter, announced Lew Leone, Vice President and General Manager, WWOR-TV and WNYW-TV. Chang begins reporting on March 3rd.

In making the announcement, Leone stated, "Ti Hua has distinguished himself with his award-winning work and exclusive investigative reports. He is a great addition to the My9 News team."

Chang joins My9 from WCBS-TV where he served as a general assignment and investigative reporter. Previously, he was a reporter with WNBC-TV, where on 9/11 he was the first to inform the public on the number of causalities that day, quoting Mayor Giuliani and city officials. Prior to this, Chang hosted his own talk show on WNYC-TV, "New York Hotline," and was an investigative producer with ABC News.

Added Chang, "I am tremendously excited for this new opportunity and look forward to working with the talented team at My9 News."

The recipient of numerous awards, Chang received a Peabody Award in 1996 for his series of reports on drug-dealers accused of murderer. In 2004, he won a New York Press Club award for his reports on a shooting at City Hall. The following year, he received an Edward R. Murrow Award for a piece exposing police officers using helicopters and high tech infra-red equipment to spy on private citizens. Chang is also the recipient of four Emmys; the Philadelphia, Denver and Detroit Press Association awards; and the Associated Press and United Press International awards.

Active in Asian-American community affairs, Chang was a national and local board member of the Asian-American Journalists Association. He has also been published in a number of outlets, including The New York Times Sunday magazine and The Detroit News. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, Chang was named in 2004 as one of the 10 most influential Columbia alumni in New York City, where he resides with his family.
