Anne Frank’s Classmates Book at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Theo Coster‘s book, By The Classmates of Anne Frank, will be shopped around at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. Seven of Anne Frank’s former classmates contributed to the manuscript. The book has already been published in Dutch and made into a documentary.

Now Patrick Walsh of the Conville & Walsh agency will take the book to Frankfurt. The documentary’s trailer is embedded above.

Bookseller reports: “Coster was a friend and classmate of Frank’s in the Jewish Lyceum in Amsterdam. After the war he moved to Tel Aviv and created a games company. He contacted six other surviving classmates of Frank’s and filmed a documentary in which they recounted their survival stories.”

This would be the first new material surfacing about Anne Frank in years. Otto Frank had removed five specific pages from his daughter’s surviving diary because they detailed the strained relationship he shared with Anne’s mother, Edith Frank-Hollander. Cornelis Suijk, the former director of the Anne Frank Foundation, revealed the pages in 1999 to raise money for his foundation. After the matter of intellectual property rights were settled with the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation, printed editions of Diary of a Young Girl have included these extra pages.
