The media's excitement over celebrity entrants in yesterday's New York City Marathon may have gravitated more towards pop stars like Vanessa Carlton and Tate Donovan, but the literati were well represented too. Tibetan monk Sakyong Mipham Rimpoche (left), the author of Ruling Your World: Ancient Strategies for Modern Life, turned in a respectable time of 3 hours, 26 minutes (seven minutes faster than Donovan), telling the Times, "It was a joyful experience throughout. At times, I had to remind myself I was actually running. Everything was so elevated and exciting." The Sakyong was running for charity, hoping to raise $100,000 towards the restoration of a Buddhist monastic center in Tibet.
