Saying Goodbye To David Foster Wallace
In one entry, critic James Wood regretted that he never had a chance to dispute a reviewer's assertion that Woods had treated Wallace like an "aesthetic villain." Wood recorded this haunting memory: "On Friday, I was pondering writing a note to Wallace to say as much (and to correct the impression he might have got from that review), and then on Saturday came the terrible news -- 'like a man slapped.'" Other writers paid their respects as well, including journalist Neal Pollack, author Tod Goldberg, and novelist Porochista Khakpour. Email This Post |
