The sad passing of David Foster Wallace has sparked a tremendous outpouring of thoughts and memories from all corners of the literary web. Edward Champion has created an online memorial to Wallace, collecting tributes from different writers.

In one entry, critic James Wood regretted that he never had a chance to dispute a reviewer's assertion that Woods had treated Wallace like an "aesthetic villain." Wood recorded this haunting memory:

"On Friday, I was pondering writing a note to Wallace to say as much (and to correct the impression he might have got from that review), and then on Saturday came the terrible news -- 'like a man slapped.'"

Other writers paid their respects as well, including journalist Neal Pollack, author Tod Goldberg, and novelist Porochista Khakpour.
