Rupert Murdoch Must Hate Ann CoulterRemember a few weeks ago we told you about Joe Maguire's Brainless, William Morrow's contribution to the growing line of people ready to re-enact the slapping scene from Airplane with Ann Coulter? Well, apparently Maguire's bosses at Reuters didn't appreciate his extracurricular work, because suddenly he's out of a job. "Our editorial policy and The Reuters Trust Principles are prominently displayed for all to see," the news syndicate told the NY Times. "Mr. Maguire's book will soon be available. Both speak for themselves." But News Corp. isn't done with Coulter yet. Joining Brainless on the new releases table this week is Soulless, another attack on the conservative pundit by Fox News commentator Susan Estrich published by Regan. Perhaps on the grounds that every knife thrust needs a good twist, Estrich made herself up to mirror the cover of Coulter's latest tome, Godless. "I have nothing against Ann Coulter personally," Estrich told a reporter for Washington, D.C.'s The Hill, but added (in a fuller response tossed over our transom), "I wanted to call attention to the contrast between the shiny attractive facade and what lurks behind it: the ugly message of hate." And how did the makeover go? "The surprising thing about the cover shot was how easy it was to do," Estrich noted. "No fake tan, just a little make up. Pin in a few hair extensions.
