In a rapid-fire survey of 100 Manhattanites, New York magazine discovered some encouraging statistics about the future of reading--at least in New York City.

According to the survey, a whopping 67 percent of the interviewees spent $50 or more on books over the last year. Nineteen percent actually spent more than $250 a year. Ten percent admitted that they haven't bought books in the last year.
