Brooklyn Teen Metal Band Sensation Signs Book Deal

unlockingthetruthUnlocking the Truth, a Brooklyn-based heavy metal band of soon-to-be eighth graders, has signed a book deal with Penguin Group’s G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers.

Charisse Jones, a co-author of dancer Misty Copeland’s memoir Life in Motion, has signed on as writer. Jane Startz of Jane Startz Productions and Stacey Barney, Senior Editor, Putnam Books for Young Readers brokered the deal whose terms were not disclosed.

“The book is important to us because we will get to share our journey with the world and inspire both kids and adults, and show that if you work hard your dream just might come true,” explained the band in a statement.  ”And it is an amazing opportunity to tell the world what friendship is about.  We are more than just a band; we are the best of friends proving that the whole is bigger than the individual.”

The book deal comes after a whirlwind of success for Malcolm Brickhouse, Alec Atkins and Jarad Dawkins. Last week, The Cherry Party, a division of Sony, signed the trio.  The band played Coachella for the first time this year and is part of the 2014 Warped Tour. The kids, who have been friends since daycare, got their start playing outside on the streets in Times Square.
