Last month, we asked Should Authors Dance? and initiated a quest to get a writer cast on Dancing with the Stars. The campaign earned hundreds of comments and a mention in the print edition of the New York Post.
The impressive response proved what we’ve been saying all along: authors are stars and they deserve to dance too. At last update, the two top contenders were Claire Cook with 47 votes and Kathy L. Patrick with 17 votes. Since then, we have received hundreds of responses.
Today we are proud to announce the winner. The final vote tally follows below…
Claire Cook has earned 388 votes and Kathy L. Patrick has earned 232 votes. Congratulations to Claire Cook, the clear winner of our Dancing with the Stars reader vote.
However, both Cook and Patrick wrote blog posts and mobilized huge groups of online fans. We decided that the online response exceeded our expectations, and we think both writers deserve a shot at being on Dancing with the Stars.
Inspired by the successful Facebook campaign to get Betty White on SNL, we have created Facebook petitions for both writers–visit and leave your likes, comments, and tributes. We will send the final draft of each petition to producers at ABC and Dancing with the Stars. Here’s hoping that both writers will don sequins and dancing shoes in an effort to win the mirror ball trophy.
