Dav Pilkey to Publish Two New ‘Captain Underpants’ Titles

Captain Underpants will return in 2012. Author Dav Pilkey has two new Captain Underpants titles in the works for Scholastic: Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers (due out August 28, 2012) and Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers (due out January 2013).

Here’s more from the release: “In his ninth epic Captain Underpants novel, Dav Pilkey takes readers back in time to the carefree days of kindergarten, when the worst thing heroes George and Harold had to face was NOT an evil mad scientist or an alien cafeteria lady but a sixth-grade bully named Kipper Krupp, the nephew of their clueless school principal.”

The books will have a first printing of one million copies apiece.

In the meantime, Scholastic will release eBook versions of two classic Pilkey titles on January 31st: The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby and Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers. According to the release, “each include bonus material about the making of the books, samples of sketches by Dav Pilkey, deleted scenes, and more.” What is your favorite Captain Underpants title?

Pilkey has published more than 40 children’s books titles. The Captain Underpants series counts 50 million books in print within North America. In 1997, he received the Caldecott Honor Award for his stand-alone picture book, The Paperboy. Fans can access his biographical series, “The Almost Completely True Adventures of Dav Pilkey,” in both cartoon and text versions on his official website.
