Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins will play the lead roles in the film adaptation of Cassandra Clare‘s urban fantasy novel, Mortal Instruments.
Clare defended both these casting decisions in an interview with Hollywood Crush.
Clare explained: “[Bower] auditioned with Lily, and he and Lily had incredible chemistry that sort of blazed off the scene. I’m just sitting here watching this on my computer, and you know, he was not the only person they’ve ever sent me to look at. I’ve gotten lots of headshots and this and that, and I’m watching the audition and I literally started crying because that was my Jace and Clary on the screen.”
Both actors have held roles in literary adaptations in the past. Bower has acted in The Twilight Saga and the Harry Potter series. Collins has been seen in Priest and The Blind Side.
Bower will play Jace Wayland and Collins will play Clary Fray.
