Library of Congress Website & Buildings Closed

loc

The Library of Congress has closed today, both the website and buildings shuttered by a government shutdown.

Here is the stark post on the library’s website this morning:

Due to the temporary shutdown of the federal government, the Library of Congress is closed to the public and researchers beginning October 1, 2013 until further notice. All public events are cancelled and web sites are inaccessible, except the legislative information sites THOMAS.gov and beta.congress.gov.

The National Endowment for the Arts website is still working. You can visit old posts and articles, but the site will not have new material. The NEA website posted this message:

Funding for the federal government expired at midnight on September 30, 2013. During this lapse in appropriation, the NEA’s website will not be updated or monitored.
