Median Length of a Book Is 64,000 Words

Using Amazon’s Text Stats feature, Publishers Weekly‘s PWxyz blog determined that the median length of a book is 64,000 words. The article also indexed the word count of many famous novels.

Here’s more from the article: “The figure was found through looking at a number of books’ text stats, until Brave New World‘s 64,531 word count landed in the exact center of all books–50% of books have fewer words and 50% of books have more words.”

Every November, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) participants try to produce 50,000 words in a month. In 2011, these writers collectively produced 3,074,933,684 words. Do you think these statistics will influence these writers?
