The 2011 National Book Award for Poetry went to Nikky Finney.

The 2011 National Book Award for Nonfiction went to Stephen Greenblatt for The Swerve: How the World Became Modern.

The 2011 National Book Award for Fiction went to Jesmyn Ward for her book Salvage the Bones.
