New Kindle Paperwhite Has Goodreads Built into Device

Amazon has unveiled a new Kindle Paperwhite, building Goodreads interaction straight into the $119 eReader. Goodreads members can now rate books and share passages from inside the Kindle.

The device boasts eight weeks of battery life and a feature to read footnotes in-line without losing your place in the digital book. Preorders are available today, and Amazon will ship the first device September 30th. Here’s more about some new features on the device:

Combines the world’s largest e-reading community and the world’s largest community of book lovers. Join over 20 million other readers and see what your friends are reading, share highlights, and rate the books you read with Goodreads on Kindle, available exclusively from Amazon … New Kindle Page Flip–Skim page-by-page, scan by chapter, or skip to the end of your book, all without losing your place. For example, it’s now easy to quickly flip back and forth to that map of Beyond the Wall in A Dance With Dragons.

Back in March, Amazon acquired Goodreads, a social network for readers. When the news broke, the Goodreads team made this promise:

For all of you Kindle readers, there’s obviously an extra bonus in this announcement. You’ve asked us for a long time to be able to integrate your Kindle and Goodreads experiences. Making that option a reality is one of our top priorities.
