Pick a Hottie Before You Leave the Office!

UPDATE: No more voting, only results!

Sure, voting in the "Hotties of Publishing" polls (men and women alike) officially goes on until midnight Sunday, but are you really going to remember to do it this weekend? Do it now, while it's still fresh in your mind. We'll be keeping an eye on the results, to make sure there's no ballot stuffing. If we catch anybody tampering with the polls, we will take action. Don't think we're running some sort of goofball operation!

Unless, of course, like Other blogger Claire Light, you believe we're just reinforcing the patriarchy here. "Having a men's hottie contest doesn't excuse having a women's hottie contest," Light charges, and I think it has something to do with how we're demeaning women's accomplishments even when we point out good-looking men. Light also insists that not only am I stupid for having thought up this thing, Sarah's stupid for thinking it was a good idea, mediabistro.com's stupid for agreeing to let us do it, and the ten men and women you're voting on right now are stupid for taking part in it with us. I don't really have much to say in response to such mean-spirited bitterness, except that I think we've made it abundantly clear that our finalists aren't just pretty faces, they're accomplished professionals who have already earned the respect and admiration of their industry peers. Longtime readers know the spirit in which all this was started, and we're not so obtuse that most new arrivals can't figure it out. It's a shame we're not a smart enough blog for Light to enjoy, but we hope everyone else who's trying this blog for the first time after hearing about our little event sticks around to enjoy all the other swell stuff we do. Like next week! What happens next week, you ask? Here's a hint for our loyal fans: the dog days of August are finally arriving...
