IPG Offers Publishers a DRM-Free Option

The Independent Publishers Group has created a new option for its member publishers, allowing them to sell eBooks without Digital Rights Management (DRM).

Here’s more from the release: “IPG-distributed publishers ECW Press, Chicago Review Press, Medallion Press and Triumph Books have already jumped on the opportunity. David Caron, co-publisher of Toronto-based ECW, says ‘We work hard to interest readers in our authors. If DRM sours that relationship, then as a publisher, we must trust that readers will respect authors by only copying e-books for their private use.’”

DRM freedom is in the air. Yesterday Tor/Forge unveiled a DRM-free eBook store. Below, we’ve created a list of a few more publishers offering DRM-free books.

Publishers with DRM-Free eBooks

1. Angry Robot Books: “you can buy our eBooks, DRM-free, from any country in the world. We also release our editions through all major eBook outlets, in as many countries as we can but notably across North America and Europe, in the same week.”

2. O’Reilly eBooks: “You get lifetime access to ebooks you purchase through oreilly.com. Whenever possible we provide them to you in five DRM-free file formats — PDF, ePub, Kindle-compatible .mobi, DAISY, and Android .apk.”

3. Carina Press: “We will be offering the stories DRM-free on the Carina Press site and we will be offering the editorial to other vendors. If they wrap their own DRM on it, that will be their call.”

4. Baen Ebooks, purveyors of DRM-free ebooks. This means you can enjoy your ebooks on as many eReaders as you choose for no additional cost.

5. The eBook Reader Blog has a comprehensive list more DRM-free publishers.
