Publishing Triangle Winners Unveiled

The Triangle Awards, a ceremony which honors the best lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered fiction, nonfiction, and poetry was presented in New York this week.

Author Alison Bechdel, whose memoir Are You My Mother? comes out this spring, won the Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement award this year. This is the third time the author has won an award at the event.

Here is more from the release: “She began keeping a journal at the age of ten and has been assiduously archiving her own life and times with words and pictures ever since. For twenty-five years, she wrote and drew the comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, a generational chronicle considered ‘one of the preeminent oeuvres in the comics genre, period.’”

In addition, My Sister Chaos by Lara Fergus won the Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction. When We Were Outlaws by Jeanne Córdova took the Judy Grahn Award for Lesbian Nonfiction. Recruiting Young Love: How Christians Talk about Homosexuality by Mark D. Jordan won the Randy Shilts Award for Gay Nonfiction. Touch by Henri Cole took the Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry. Inside the Money Machine by Minnie Bruce Pratt won the Audre Lorde Award for Lesbian Poetry. The Unreal Life of Sergey Nabokov by Paul Russell won the Ferro-Grumley Award for gay and lesbian fiction.
