The Feminist Press Publishes Pussy Riot eBook

The Feminist Press has been working with Russian punk art collective Pussy Riot on an eBook project entitled Pussy Riot!: A Punk Prayer for Freedom. The title will be available at digital bookstores on September 21st.

Here’s more from the release: “On February 21, 2012, five members of Pussy Riot staged a protest performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Three of the performers, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevitch, known as Masha, Nadya, and Katya, were arrested and charged with felony hooliganism motivated by religious hatred. As their trial unfolded, these young women became global feminist icons, garnering the attention and support of activists and artists around the world. They were sentenced to two years in prison, and inspired a global movement. ”

The book will contain letters written during their imprisonment, courtroom statements, poems and of course, Pussy Riot’s infamous punk prayer. The book will also include tributes written by supporters Yoko OnoJohanna FatemanKaren FinleyJustin Vivian BondEileen Myles and JD Samson. Profits derived from book sales will be used to cover the expenses for Pussy Riot’s legal defense team.
