The Very Hungry Caterpillar Fights Childhood Obesity
Eric Carle‘s beloved title, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, will be donated to 17,500 pediatrician offices around the country in a campaign to fight childhood obesity.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the American Academy of Pediatrics created the “Eating Healthy. Growing Strong.” campaign. They allied with We Give Books, a digital initiative from Penguin and the Pearson Foundation. The organization’s website features a Caterpillar reading guide, a special growth chart, and tips on healthy eating.
The press release has this quote fromĀ Carle: “I’m so pleased that my caterpillar can help to promote healthy eating in the fight against childhood obesity, and I hopeĀ The Very Hungry Caterpillar will be a happy reminder for children to grow healthy and spread their strong wings, like the butterfly in my book.”
