Has it really been a year and a half since wespoke to Don Weise about his departure from Avalon Publishing Group when that company was bought by Perseus? Well, we're happy to report that Weise has just appointed as the new publisher at Alyson Books, which was acquired earlier this year by Regent Media, a multimedia company focused on content for the full spectrum of queer audiences. "I look forward to working with Regent Media in further developing Alyson's existing relationships with distinguished authors, as well as cultivating new ones," Weise said in a press release announcing his new position. "Our goal is to serve the audience that already loves the Alyson label while also opening the door to a brand new readership." He's well suited to the task; during his stints at Carroll & Graf and Cleis, Weise was a three-time recipient of the Lambda Literary Awards, and his track record in gaining crossover recognition for gay and lesbian authors would spur the major publishers to duplicate his success.
