United Palace of Cultural Arts Opens October 25

The Word Up Community Bookshop (a New York City pop-up bookstore that had a successful run last summer) has partnered with the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance to program a literary launch for the United Palace of Cultural Arts (UPCA).

The event will take place in New York City’s historic United Palace building on Thursday, October 25th. The event will include spoken word performances, readings, a puppet show and music. Word Up helped gather a majority of the volunteers who will help out at the event.

Here’s more from the release: “After the launch the evening will turn into an Arts Interaction as dozens of artists, including musicians, dancers, actors, poets, puppeteers, and photographers, fill the Palace’s grand foyer, mezzanine, library, and balcony with performances and presentations. Most of these artists are being curated by volunteers from Word Up Community Bookshop, the pop-up bookstore that occupied an empty storefront across the street from the Palace for a year before being forced out by a steep rent hike. Much of Word Up’s inventory is being stored in the Palace basement as it searches for a new location.”
