Veronica Mars Coming as Mystery Book Series

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas will co-write a new mystery series about characters from the Veronica Mars TV show that ran from 2004 until 2007.

Random House’s Vintage imprint acquired the first two books in the series from Alloy Entertainment, and Jodi Reamer from Writers House negotiated the deal. Here’s more from the release:

The books will contain completely new stories, and will be stand-alone novels that will appeal to fans of the show, as well as general mystery readers. The plot of the first book in the series will begin where events of the upcoming “Veronica Mars” film end, and will feature an adult Veronica Mars.

The first book wil be published next spring. Warner Bros. plans to release a Veronica Mars film in 2014 as well, a project raised more than $5.7 million on Kickstarter earlier this year.

Thomas will direct the film, and shared the literary origins of the series:

I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I’m thrilled that I’m going to get the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I’ve loved and missed.
