Job Requirements As part of the Office of Communications at Vassar College, the part-time assistant editor, digital and social media will assist the director of alumnae/i communications in producing content for the alumnae/i website, the alumnae/i magazine, a monthly e-newsletter for alumnae/i and parents, and broadcast emails. This benefits-eligible position is part-time (27.5 hours/week) for the full year.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • The daily management of Vassar's alumnae/i-focused social media outlets (currently Facebook and Twitter) and the alumnae/i website (alums.vassar.edu).
  • Identifying new trends and emerging platforms in social media and making recommendations for their use in meeting the needs of the college.
  • Reviewing and approving e-blasts sent to Vassar alumnae/i and parents.
  • Providing social media support for events, as needed.
  • Working collaboratively with the college's editorial staff to write and edit articles about the college, its activities, alumnae/i, and students for print and electronic media.


Qualifications:
  • Experience writing and editing content for online publications, including the selection and processing of photos and videos.
  • Strong familiarity with and experience using current social media platforms and a proven ability to engage constituents through their use.
  • Proven ability to think strategically about social media, including emerging platforms.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills and facility in working with others to generate story ideas and social media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) is a plus.
  • A bachelor's degree and at least three years of professional experience in writing and editing for social media and print and electronic publications.
