Requirements
Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Must have 1-2 years experience in the publishing industry, including some time in Production, and be highly proficient with new media such as blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. Knowledge of, or experience in, eBook production is highly desirable. Experience with Quark, InDesign, and Photoshop is highly preferred; experience with Illustrator is a plus.
Job Description
Production Responsibilities — Applicant would coordinate the day-to-day tasks of book production, including but not limited to: requesting estimates from printers; proofreading covers and jackets; assembling files for transfer to press; circulating proof and collating changes or recording approval; and staying in contact with vendors. Applicant would also head the company’s eBook program: follow and further develop company protocol for eBooks; coordination of securing eBook rights; conversion of electronic files to eBook formats; distribution to all the major eBook retailers.
New Media Marketing Responsibilities — In conjunction with the Marketing Director, applicant would be required to: write and copyedit posts for the Godine blog, including those from authors; post regularly to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest; and edit and update the Godine website as needed.
Additional Responsibilities — Applicant would take care of permissions: manage and respond to all incoming permissions requests; create contracts using FileMaker system; and process payments received. In addition, applicant would function as Office Manager: maintain office supplies and order new supplies as needed; hire interns; train and oversee interns once they have started.
