Yelp is looking for a creative, results-oriented media specialist who can continue to grow our local communications efforts across our more than 80 North American Yelp community managed markets. The right candidate will love coming up with new and exciting ways to tell a story and embrace the challenge of managing projects from concept to completion. About you:
* Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience, agency or in-house. Previous work in consumer product PR, preferably tech.
* Above average writing ability: You can whip out a tongue-in-cheek media alert, then digest it down to 140 characters in a Yelpy voice.
* Media connoisseur: You know how to identify the appropriate contact at any given outlet and love interacting with reporters to help them understand the Yelp story.
* Multi-tasker: You can seamlessly transition from media training someone in Phoenix one moment, to brainstorming unique pitch ideas for the Yelp community in Miami, to responding to an incoming inquiry from a Austin business reporter.
* Tactical: You understand the pieces that need to go into place to complete a project and are able to identify the appropriate resources to help you make it happen.
* Uber organized: You can conceptualize, negotiate, wrangle, plan and execute cool, buzz-worthy media tours and events from start to finish.
* Interpersonal savvy: You have the ability to work effectively with numerous remote colleagues.
* Social media addict. Live it. Love it. Able to work it.
About the job:
* Develop effective consumer campaigns and media tours in order to build awareness of Yelp in local markets.
* Support Yelp Community Managers in press outreach for their specific events and marketing efforts.
* Support Yelp's Managers of Local Business Outreach on business press related opportunities, both proactive and reactive.
* Media train and prepare community management team for interviews, broadcast appearances and speaking engagements.
* Provide support across our community management team on media strategy, media lists, corporate communications initiatives and general PR inquiries and tips.
* Work with PR Coordinators on building out and maintaining a master media list.
* Assist in social media strategies and efforts and provide guidance to the community management team.
* Travel about 35% (for Community Manager support during media tours)
Other necessary requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e. communications, journalism, marketing or liberal arts)
* Skill with MS Word, PowerPoint and MS Excel
* Interviewees will be expected to complete a writing assignment |
