GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL PROJECTS EDITOR
Responsible for on-time, high-quality editorial production of the magazine publisher’s supplementary publications and other one-off projects relating to luxury, fine watches, travel, wellness, and other fields.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Special Projects Editor will be determined on a project-by-project basis and are likely to include some or all of the following:
*Manage the editorial-production process, overseeing fact checking, copyediting, copy fitting, and proofreading, from manuscript to final ship.
*Track and traffic all stories among the various editors, art directors, production staff, etc.
*Edit short- and long-form texts, including line editing and copyediting. (Some fact checking may be required as well.)
*Proofread all layouts and implement text changes using Adobe InDesign software.
*Finalize all layouts.
*Review and approve all prepress files for final publication.
*Carry out other editorial duties (e.g., writing) as assigned by a given project’s assigning editor or his or her designee(s).
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
At least five years of experience in an editorial-production environment at a Managing Editor level. Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign desktop publishing software as well as Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook. Experience with digital publishing software and social-media applications is a plus, as is familiarity with the luxury, fine-watches, travel, wellness, and related markets.
