The assistant/associate editor is responsible for researching, reporting and writing stories for FoodService Director magazine and its digital properties. This position is primarily a writing job. The ideal candidate will work well in a small-team environment, be able to juggle multiple stories at once and meet deadlines. A creative thinker and good team player are musts. FoodService Director is the the leading publication in the non-commercial foodservice industry. Responsibilities

•Reporting and writing
•Identify and pursue story leads for FoodService Director magazine, foodservicedirector.com and related e-newsletters
•Write a variety of stories for the magazine, ranging from short front-of-book pieces to longer features
•Write new product releases
•Editing
•Proofread magazine pages
•Proof e-newsletters tests
•Strategy
•Work with the staff of FoodService Director magazine to conceptualize new story topics, design ideas and storytelling devices
•Help develop themes and content for MenuDirections, FoodService Director’s annual conference
•Magazine representation
•Represent the magazine at industry events
•Assist CSP Business Media events staff with the MenuDirections conference. Duties include helping with registration and orientation for attendees and introducing speakers in small breakout sessions


Skills:

•Excellent writing, reporting and communication skills.
•Ability to multitask and work on several projects at once. Good organization is a must.
•Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage and develop relationships both internally and externally.
•Ability to work independently as a member of a fast-paced team.
•A healthy dose of curiosity and willingness to learn the non-commercial foodservice industry and stay on top of emerging trends.
•Good storytelling techniques for both print and online properties.


Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience--journalism/media or communications preferred.
•1-2 years print journalism experience. Web experience is a plus.
•Proficiency in copyediting.
•Proficiency in AP Style.
•Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
•Strong experience using Microsoft office applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
