Director of Media Sandbox

Michigan State University is looking for a fun, energetic and forward-thinking media guru to lead Media Sandbox, an exciting and growing creative force in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Media Sandbox is an innovative curriculum and a creative community for students looking to develop their skills in film, television, graphic design, web design, game design, visual storytelling, journalism, advertising, 3D and animation, documentary, as well as creative media not yet invented.
Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Media Sandbox and will work with the following units in the college to make Media Sandbox the premiere destination for media arts education in the country:
• Advertising and Public Relations
• Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media
• School of Journalism
If you are creative, have an entrepreneurial spirit, are a strong motivator and communicator, and have an insider understanding of media industries with experience managing a creative culture, then we would love to talk to you. As Director, you would embrace challenge, create connections with industry, and be a passionate spokesperson for the Media Sandbox.
The required qualifications for the position are an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; a minimum of 5 years of experience and demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities in a professional capacity in industry, a corporation, or a media organization; experience with a business approach to media; and a broad understanding of media industries. An advanced degree and experience in higher education are a plus, but not necessary. Other desired traits include demonstrated ability to develop, nurture and build cooperative, collegial working relationships with a broad range constituencies; experience with budget planning, financial planning and forecasting; organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; excellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to engage fully with a variety of constituents spanning all levels of socioeconomic status; and the ability to work in a team environment.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
