To qualify, you must have/be:
. an excellent foundation with the following technologies:
Core Java, Spring MVC, Java Servlet API, JSP, XML, JSON, JSTL, Struts, Hibernate, and JAXB
. experience with databases, preferably Oracle, with ability to code stored procedures, triggers and functions. PL/SQL preferred.
. comfort level working with both Windows and Unix environments
. experience with Tomcat and ability to do minimal configurations.
. outstanding communication skills

Smithsonian Channel Digital is seeking a Freelance Senior Front-End Web Developer to join our team. Our ideal candidate is highly skilled in advanced JavaScript and modern HTML/CSS, and has experience in at least one server-side scripting language (ideally JSP w/JSTL).We are looking for someone who thinks creatively and constantly looks for ways to innovate and improve existing technologies, processes and systems.
You will join a small but mighty team and play a key role in developing technical solutions for our strategic initiatives. Your work will be essential in supporting our business and driving our organization forward. You should be flexible and enterprising, thrive in a small team and startup atmosphere, and be passionate about digital media (and ideally Smithsonian Channel content). You will work in a collaborative environment that encourages shared responsibility and prides itself on high-quality work.
Responsibilities
· Collaborate with digital media team (including product/tech, editorial, design, marketing) on the ideation, requirements, specifications, development and testing on new products and features that strengthen and expand Smithsonian Channel’s digital presence
· Partner with our front-end developer to develop interactive web and mobile web experiences, leveraging advanced JavaScript (along with JQuery and various libraries), modern HTML/CSS, and JSP/JSTL - with an eye to to scalability, design, and performance
· Partner with our Java engineer on developing and integrating the application logic for the data that will drive the content experience
· Modify legacy code, and leave the code in better shape than you found it. Make recommendations on how to streamline and performance-tune existing codebase
· Write new code, and ensure new development emphasizes efficient and structured coding (with an eye to reusability and future development) over quick short-term solutions, and promotes web standa |
