The digital media producer creates, finds, reports and edits multimedia stories for forward.com, the leading website for journalism for and about the American Jewish community. The producer records and edits video and audio stories both independently and in collaboration with reporters and editors, and also contributes to the Forward's journalistic products by posting stories, making and cropping photos, and managing social media accounts. This position reports to the director of digital media.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pitch, find and create video and other multimedia stories. Collaborate closely with reporters to develop multimedia to enhance their stories.
- Record video, audio and still photos in the newsroom, the studio and the field.
- Set up and maintain recording and lighting equipment.
- Conduct photo research and create slideshows and basic graphics for online publication.
- Find and curate Jewish-related video content from outside sources, searching video databases and internet portals.
- Maintain the Forward's video pages on video.forward.com, YouTube and Vimeo.
- Monitor news wires for Jewish-related stories; post stories, photos and multimedia elements to Forward.com.
- Contribute to the Forward's social media feeds including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIREMENTS
The digital media producer must have:
- Journalism background with extensive experience in video reporting and editing, using HD-SLR cameras, recording off-camera audio and setting up studio and field lights.
- Expertise and facility with Final Cut Pro 7 and standard transcoding, exporting and compression methods suitable for online video.
- Familiarity with studio audio mixers and audio editing software such as Logic Pro or Pro Tools.
- Experience using photo cropping and manipulation tools such as Lightroom and Photoshop, and with graphics production and color correction.
Knowledge of Jewish issues and interest in the American Jewish community are helpful, as are Hebrew and/or Yiddish language skills.
