The Production Systems Administrator is the point person for production of NEJM Journal Watch, Physican’s First Watch, and other products. Responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of the production process and that the daily production routine is followed. Helps to evaluate and implement approaches to publishing and managing content, including publishing technologies. Troubleshoots and solves production problems, long-term and immediate, working with internal staff in NEJM Journal Watch and other departments and with third-party vendors and partners.
Representative responsibilities include: oversees daily production of NEJM Journal Watch and Physician’s First Watch digital products; works with Manager, Editorial Operations, to coordinate the activities and schedules of the production staff; works with Editorial Systems Manager and others to develop and implement new production systems for online production NEJM Journal Watch and Physician’s First Watch; coordinates testing of new digital products and features and helps to implement new features and production processes; provides first line of assistance to production, quality control, and editorial staff for immediate production problems; troubleshoots long-term production problems and works with others to solve them; participates in regular telephone conferences with the web host; communicates and manages relationships with third-party vendors, such as e-mail providers, tagging/taxonomy services, etc.
Required Skills
Must have extensive knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in, current publishing technology; in particular, must be familiar with HTML and XML, and comfortable operating web-based tools and common browsers in both Windows and Macintosh environments. Solid command of English usage is also essential, and familiarity with medical, scientific, and technical terms is helpful. A flexible, cooperative approach, good interpersonal skills, and absolute commitment to quality and timeliness are essential.
PLEASE NOTE: This position requires the incumbent, at a minimum, to work from 5:00 - 9:00PM ET every Sunday in order to accommodate a key production schedule. The balance of the work week will be distributed across the following week days - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Required Experience
A Bachelor’s or advanced degree is required. 5 to 7 years of experience working in a deadline-driven environment on digital products, preferably medical or scientific publications, are required
