Job Requirements RNN is a privately owned enterprise based in Rye Brook, NY. In 1993 the current ownership purchased a single broadcast station in New York's Hudson Valley reaching less than a quarter million homes. The company owns and operates WRNN-TV, a full-power television station in the New York DMA, and RISE Television. RISE is acable network distributed on Time Warner, Verizon FiOS and over the air on WRNN-TV DT2. RNN owns, operates, produces or master controls nine channels from its facilities in Rye Brook. RNN and its affiliates produce two 24-hour news channels in the New York DMA and two content channels in the Washington D.C. region for its partners. RNN recently built a new state-of-the-art multi-platform content hub based around the philosophy of finding efficiencies by producing content in a centralized model with the latest technology. It is a scalable and dynamic facility.

RNN employs more than 200 award-winning journalists and multi-platform producers, reporters and editors, and supplemental video resources from regional, national, and international news partners and continues to recruit highly skilled and highly engage staff to further its mission.

The Assignment Manager is in charge of the day-to-day newsgathering and operations for our FiOS1 news team. The Assignment Manager will gather news, make assignments, deal with logistics and write news stories for on-air and online.

Key Responsibilities:

Follows the news. Keep up-to-date and be knowledgeable about general developments and trends in the viewing area and ensures that new story ideas are generated for use in all newscasts
Does not miss stories and is aggressive when news breaks
Must be willing to use social media to break news and post stories and information to the website
Monitors breaking news, and make decisions about how to cover big stories, including allocating news resources
Develops and maintains news contacts, and know who to call and how to get information quickly
Contributes story ideas and assign reporters and photographers to stories
Coordinates work between reporters, photographers, editors and producers
Handles special projects assigned by the News Director
Must be able to work a flexible schedule depending on news events or staffing needs
Performs other duties as assigned
Serves as equipment coordinator and schedule keeper
Wears ALL HATS

Required:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Responds quickly to changing circumstances and breaking news
A passion and good understanding of local news
Dynamic desk presentation skills
Ability to conduct interviews
Calm under pressure, tight deadline and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Strong knowledge of local and national news issues
Ability to work with news team on the execution of the news strategy and tactic
Handle multiple breaking news stories in a fast paced network newsroom environment
Positive approach and pro-active working style
Microsoft office experience
A degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent is preferred. 2 years of working experience as an Assignment Manager. Must have 2 years of experience in News reporting or gathering.
