Master's degree in communication, marketing, or related field
Minimum 7 years of directly related experience; 2 years experience working for a global NGO or equivalent, and 2 years supervising staff
Strong knowledge and understanding of international affairs with a focus on democracy and human rights issues
Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relations with elite media outlets, secure news coverage placements, and publish media content
Attention to detail and ability to multi task, generate content, and oversee the production of error-free content on tight deadlines
Strong knowledge of national and international media and publications, including both traditional and social media
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement an engaging social media strategy

Position Summary
The Senior Manager for Communications will oversee the development, implementation and management of external communications strategies and plans through messaging, media relations, outreach and coverage of Freedom House events, and initiatives for advocating the advancement of freedom. This position is based in Washington DC and reports to the Executive Vice President.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and manage external communications strategies to maximize Freedom House's contributions to media coverage on key issues of democracy and human rights
Develop and implement media outreach plans to maintain and expand contacts with elite media outlets and publications and to expand coverage of FH analysis and commentary
Assess media coverage of FH analysis and commentary and design methods to improve such coverage
Track best practices and trends communications and develop new media formats to convey FH messages through multimedia applications
Serve as spokesperson and primary point of contact in all media-related matters
Initiate, establish and maintain excellent working relationships with traditional and online media, and respond to all media inquiries in coordination with relevant FH staff
Manage media contacts and vendor relationships in accordance with procedures and guidelines
Identify and pitch stories proactively and help with effective placement and review of staff op-eds
Research, edit and produce press releases and other content that is timely, accurate, compelling, and consistent with F
