Job Requirements Labradors.com is a fast-growing online community for people who love Labrador Retrievers and is the first in a series of breed-specific websites to serve dog lovers. The sites are all part of The Better Dog Network, an ecosystem that also includes other dog-related services designed to enhance the lives of dogs and support their owners. The network is owned and operated by Coventure Media, an online marketing consulting and delivery firm.

The Labradors.com site is built on a social networking platform to make it very easy for Members to communicate and collaborate with one another. We publish content six days per week and distributes that content via website, email, Facebook and other social media, and print. We are searching for an individual with online publishing experience, ideally in the pet content space, to lead the Content Team and cultivate the editorial voice for the website.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Set, communicate and maintain the editorial voice for the website.

  2. Coordinate the editorial calendar and work with the Content Team to determine what written and graphical content is scheduled when across all channels including website, email, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, other social networks and the print magazine.

  3. Develop, schedule and deliver various contests for member acquisition and engagement.

  4. Develop, schedule and deliver Member surveys both to enhance our knowledge of our membership and also as requested by advertisers and partners.

  5. Hire and manage part-time and/or full-time writing staff.

  6. Assign articles to be written and source content from partner organizations.

  7. Edit submissions for voice, grammar and content. Write copy for occasional introductions to profiles, contests and other short pieces.

  8. Manage a matrixed staff that includes an Assistant Editor/Social Media Manager, Graphic Artist, Site and Email Producer and a group of part-time writers and interns.

  9. Be responsible and accountable for driving engagement with website visitors.
  10. Provide input on tool selection for managing content and advertising.

  11. Work with the Acquisition Team to implement an SEO strategy to rapidly increase the site’s positioning in SERP results across a range of targeted keywords.

  12. Work with the Ad Operations group to coordinate content with advertising, including contextual advertising and advertorials.

  13. Work with the Executive Team and the Platform Team to design and implement new site features that enhance the user experience and engagement.

  14. Work with the Ad Sales and Platform teams to enhance visitor data collection and management, and to implement ways to deliver customized content based on this information across the website and email platforms.

  15. Work with the Executive Team to define and implement the overall strategy and direction for the Labradors.com site.

  16. Work with the Analytics Team to create and maintain reports that provide progress tracking to be used by the Content Team and by Management. Also develop and distribute reports on what kinds of content and activity generate the most engagement on the site.

  17. Continuously increase an understanding of our user population based on experience and on interaction of Members on the site and through Social Media.


The ideal candidate will be familiar with dogs and with the opinions and desires of people who love dogs. Extra points for being a dog owner and/or being involved with dog rescue efforts.

He or she will also be conversant with software platforms that support content management for online publishing.

The position reports directly to the Executive Committee.
