An exciting opportunity has opened up in our Viking/Penguin Ad Promo department. We are looking for a Designer who will design various marketing and promotional materials for the Viking and Penguin imprints.
Specifically, the Designer:
1. Designs marketing and promotional materials under tight deadlines including online static and animated ads, as well as printed postcards, brochures, and point-of-purchase displays for Viking and Penguin imprints.
2. Performs photo retouching, color balance and adjusting author photos and covers.
3. Works on Viking and Penguin catalog three times per year.
4. Executes large-scale page layout projects based on templates.
5. Prepares book cover mechanicals for creation of galleys.
6. Creates materials used at seasonal sales conferences, as well as custom presentations for author and agent meetings.
7. Develops creative marketing copy for promotional items and ads.
8. Sources vendors and coordinates with printers throughout production.
9. Participates in creation of videos.
Please apply if you meet the following minimum qualifications:
• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Min 2 years experience as a designer, preferably within the publishing field
• Ability to perform color correction and pre-press for newsprint ads and promotional items
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking ability, ability to prioritize
• Thorough knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign, proficiency in Illustrator and Dreamweaver required
• Strong design skills with portfolio submission required
Preferred qualifications include:
• Working knowledge of Adobe Flash
• Knowledge of video production, Final Cut Pro
