Master's degree and Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or related field required; 5+ years of experience in an integrated communications, media, or PR environment with on-camera experience required; 5 years of experience leading print & digital spaces including websites, social media, blogs, interactive content, or other online platforms required; experience in higher education required; on-camera experience aligning communications to support lead generation and conversion in the areas of recruitment, fund-raising, and third-party endorsement required; 3+ years of experience in leading teams and/or managing and developing staff to achieve desired results preferred; demonstrated success developing, implementing, & measuring proactive PR & crisis communications programs across print, web, broadcast & social required; exceptional written and verbal communication skills required; ability to develop and execute multi-platform communications strategies required; strong project management skills required; strong collaborator with demonstrated experience in successfully working with peers and leadership required; demonstrated success at working under deadlines with tight time frames; required; professional appearance and demeanor required; demonstrated experience developing plans to identify and mitigate potential enterprise reputation risks required; understanding of key trends and issues facing Los Angeles required; comprehensive awareness and interest in new trends, platforms, and technologies for the emerging digital landscape required; membership in professional associations preferred; familiarity with a personal computer required; experience with Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Social Media Analytic Software and Media Analytic software required; knowledge of Project Management Software, Adobe Creative Suite, and Apple Keynote required. |

The Director of Communications develops, executes, and assesses Pepperdine's central communications efforts, including editorial, media, crisis, social, and community outreach, in a manner that supports and elevates the Pepperdine brand, builds reputation, and strengthens affinity.
DUTIES: Develop strategy, direction, coordination, and assessment for communications initiatives; oversee the Communications Team priorities and staff; develop and implement an image-building public and media relations program aimed at achieving maximum exposure, awareness, and understanding of Pepperdine's mission; manage and execute crisis communications and related policies, procedures, and best practices; serve as university spokesperson; oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of Pepperdine's social media engagement strategy; manage the planning, creation, and publication of Pepperdine's flagship publications; closely monitor communications trends, research, and best practices in higher education and other industries; participate in university and industry committees; uphold the University's mission through work performed; and other duties as assigned.
