Job Requirements Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Art Director, the Graphic Designer is a member of the Institute’s design team who, under moderate supervision with broad latitude for independent judgment, supports the team with design and production of print and web projects. Must be a dynamic, detail-oriented and skilled designer who works well collaboratively, as well as independently. Must be able to adhere to deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced creative environment.

Position Duties:

• Reports to the Senior Art Director in the Communications Department
• Create print materials for various departments and schools, including posters, invitations, exhibition materials, event materials, publication layouts, and more.
• Design web materials for the above mentioned parties, including web-banners, basic animated gifs, e-blasts, homepage elements, and more.
• Work closely with the Creative Director, Art Director, freelancers, and production team in following schedules, routing processes, and pre-press procedures (when applicable) to ensure that all materials adhere to Pratt Institute's identity and effectively communicate messaging.
• Creates concepts with client schedules in mind, while clearly communicating print specifications to the production team in order to ensure that projects fall within budget.
• Support and implement the Institute’s overall design strategy.
• Conduct press checks as needed.
• Manage student graphic designers as needed.
• Complete other projects assigned by the Creative Director.

Experience and Qualifications:

Education: Minimum B.F.A. in Graphic Design or related field with relevant design course work.

Experience:
• Minimum 1–2 years experience designing print and web pieces, preferably full-time or with an agency or firm.
• Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, with working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Java Script (a plus).
• Strong typographic skills and understanding of page layout for both print and web.
• Experience in basic video editing or creating motion graphics in After Effects a plus.
• Ability to work on multiple jobs in a face-paced environment, while ensuring deadlines are met.
• Ability to create multiple concepts for projects and present them to the team with clarity before routing to clients.
• Familiarity with higher education art institutions a plus.
