Ink is looking to hire a Managing Editor to work across two US-based, high-profile in-flight magazines. The job requires overseeing the day-to-day running of both titles, which includes managing production and editorial schedules, budgets and staff. The Managing Editor’s ultimate responsibility is to ensure the magazines get out on time and in good shape. The position is based in Brooklyn, New York.
Applicants should have a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position, preferably on a travel/lifestyle/leisure title
The successful candidate must have excellent copy-editing skills, and should be equally adept at correcting grammatical errors and maintaining consistency in terms of style and formatting
Organizational ability and meticulous attention to detail are essential, as is the ability to keep a cool head under pressure
The ability to work comfortably in a creative environment is also important; candidates should be willing to weigh in on matters of visual and editorial style
The candidate should be able to produce accurate, compelling copy; small amounts of writing/research are required (how much will depend on the Managing Editor’s availability and inclination)
The role involves leading weekly production meetings, and making sure staffers are aware of their weekly deadlines, so the ability to herd cats is a big plus
