The Online Editor needs to be comfortable wearing many hats because the position combines the roles of copy editor, proofreader, assignment editor, page editor, and executive editor into a single function. The Online Editor will also author some of the content or press releases that require inside knowledge of the firm.
Importantly, the successful candidate will possess a demonstrated knack for crafting clickable headlines and a good sense for stories that get shared.
In addition to driving and supporting the ongoing evolution, competitiveness and growth of all our on-line properties, the Online Editor will be responsible for:
• Developing overall content strategy
• Developing viable story ideas
• Establishing daily and long-term editorial projects
• Proofreading
• Interacting on social media platforms
• Collaborating with design and SEO specialists to develop new web properties and improve existing ones
• Managing a stable of contributing writers (staff and freelance)
Applicant requirements:
• College degree
• 3 to 5 years of experience in online editing, journalism, communications or a related field
• Excellent grammar and spelling skills; intimate familiarity of AP style
• Solid experience using content management systems, blog software, and social media platforms
• Familiarity with SEO best-practices
