Job Requirements The Media Relations Manager will work directly with the Media Relations Director in developing the national press strategy for seasonal Home initiatives, and provide support for national events, cause marketing programs, and special projects (national brand launches, etc.). This role is focused on national media outreach, with an eye toward planning for execution by regional teams. This person will be positive, energetic, highly motivated, conscientious and detail-oriented – a self-starter who takes initiative in developing new ideas and solving problems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Media Relations -- Develop and execute major consumer media relations efforts to support the company’s reputation as the premier destination for popular/desirable brands in Fashion and Home, iconic national events, and strengthening our communities through volunteerism and charitable support. To include:
o Develop media relations strategies that will drive coverage and sales
o Writing press materials (press releases, media alerts, key messages, presentations, etc.)
o Pitching story ideas to national media outlets (print, magazine, TV, online)
o Coordination with media for interviews, segments, placements (familiarity in working with media)
o Planning/executing media events
o Representing the national media relations team in cross-functional meetings
o Facilitating content and support for regional media relations teams
• Events / Signature programs – Develop media outreach programs/collateral for signature home efforts, including Macy’s Culinary Council, new home brands, etc.
• Agency support – Manage external support for select home-related programs/initiatives
• Internal Communications – Coordination with Macy’s Inc. and regional contacts for internal communication vehicles
• Website Content Management (pressroom) – ­Manage content on Macy’s online pressroom to ensure information is current

SKILLS SUMMARY:
• BA/BS in communications-related field, with 5-7 years of relative experience in public relations, media relations, communications or related area.
• Innovative, creative, proactive and confident thinker
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Effective command of language and writing (communications plans, press materials, executive messaging/presentations, etc.)
• Proven history of success in working with/pitching reporters; contacts at national consumer magazine and television outlets a plus
• Background in retail or other consumer business; general knowledge of the department store business a plus
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite and other software programs (CisionPoint, etc.)
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
