galleycat_hotties_stephen_b.jpgMeet Your GalleyCat Hotties of Publishing: Stephen Barbara, Liz Scheier [GalleyCat]
Voting in our "Hotties of Publishing" polls ended at midnight, and though the running tally in our women's division was intensely close during the entire polling period, NAL/Roc editor Liz Scheier edged far enough ahead of the other candidates to claim victory. American Apparel Seeks Retraction Of 10-Page Exposé, May Seek Legal Action [FishbowlNY]
Clamor, an award-winning Ohio-based quarterly magazine, is prepping a 10-page section analyzing American Apparel's business model and sexual harassment claims made against the clothing company's outspoken founder Dov Charney. American Apparel, in turn, has sent letters to the magazine demanding a retraction and removal of the article from its Web site. Clamor editor Jen Angel says the magazine has "no intention" issuing a retraction.

First Presidential Press Conference In New Digs [FishbowlDC]
Transcript: "Q: Would you campaign against Senator Joe Lieberman, whose Republican candidate may support you, but he supports you, too, on Iraq? THE PRESIDENT: I'm going to stay out of Connecticut. (Laughter.) Q: You were born there. THE PRESIDENT: Shhh. (Laughter.) I may be the only person — the only presidential candidate who never carried the state in which he was born. Do you think that's right, Herman? Of course, you would have researched that and dropped it out for everybody to see — particularly since I dissed that just ridiculous looking outfit."

For Chris Cuomo, A Bright Future At GMA [TVNewser]
Charlie Gibson. Matt Lauer. Chris Cuomo. Cuomo, the new news anchor of Good Morning America, says he's never considered it. But it sounds like GMA senior executive producer Jim Murphy has. "I look at Chris in much the same way people at NBC looked at Matt Lauer ten years ago," he told TVNewser this afternoon.

Can't We All Just Get A-Chong? [FishbowlLA]
Tommy Chong signs his new book, The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint, tonight in Pasadena. The Los Angeles Times had Jonathan Shapiro, a lawyer turned TV writer, review it. An impassioned defender took took issue and wrote this letter.

Can You Tell Which Room Was Decorated in 1970? [UnBeige]
A Flickr stream has been making the blogrounds due to its giddy depiction of '70s decor selected from the pages of 1970's Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement. It's a glorious cacophony of gold and zebra stripes, polka dots and pink. Laugh if you will, but this piece from last week's Times piece about designers who create happiness with — yep — gold and zebra stripes, polka dots and pink.

The Shape of Things? [MBToolbox]
You've gotten a nice assignment from an editor and have a couple of great ideas for the physical structure of the article — maybe it's a sidebar, or a unique way to break up the piece. Do you suggest your ideas to your editor, or will that put her off, making her think you're pushy and trying to do her job?
